I approached this project by creating many different types of marks and ended up being inspired by cybersigilism. Each mark on the pages were hand-drawn traditionally and scanned to incorporate asemic writing.
The series of four zines have their own sleeves that are unique in design, yet tie each of the four series together.
Process
This project explores asemic writing through a series of foldable zines that merge educational content with expressive mark-making. Each zine presents a concise introduction to asemic writing—text that resembles unreadable language—while incorporating traditional mark-making techniques to visually reinforce the concept. Designed to unfold into a broadside, the piece transforms from an intimate, readable format into a larger, immersive composition where gesture, texture, and abstraction take precedence. This shift in form reflects the transition from structured understanding to open interpretation, inviting viewers to engage with asemic writing both intellectually and experimentally.
